A Home Reimagined in Ireland Style Elegance
Some homes have good bones. Others have good stories.
This one had both—wrapped in the warmth, humor, and unmistakable charm of a large, old Irish family who gathers often, loves fiercely, and celebrates with the kind of spirit that fills a whole neighborhood.
And yet, their beloved two-story center hall colonial wasn’t keeping up.
For a family known for hosting one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day gatherings “any true Irish blood has ever seen,” the home’s chopped-up layout—tight rooms, awkward traffic flow, and dim pockets of space—simply wasn’t serving the way they lived. Mingling felt forced. Guests bottlenecked in doorways. And what should feel like an open welcome felt unintentionally closed off.
Kurtz Design was invited in to change that—beautifully, thoughtfully, and with reverence for the family’s heritage.
Honoring Heritage While Opening the Home
Our design vision centered on creating a more intuitive flow—an ease of movement that mirrors the way this family naturally engages with one another.
We wanted the home to feel:
Light and bright, with an effortless airiness
Warm and rooted, inspired by landscapes reminiscent of the Irish countryside
Inviting, with spaces that naturally bring people together
Functional, structured for large-scale celebrations and intimate family dinners alike
By pulling in natural textures, a softened color palette, and organic silhouettes, we struck a balance between classic colonial bones and a refreshed, countryside-inspired charm.
A Family Room Transformed: Seasonal, Cozy, and Alive
The existing family room had potential—a great foundation, generous size, and central position in the home—but lacked soul.
It didn’t feel seasonal. It didn’t feel cozy. It didn’t reflect the energy and warmth of the people who lived there.
We reimagined it as the new heart of the home:
Plush, layered textures invite relaxation year-round
Thoughtful lighting enhances gatherings from winter nights to breezy summer afternoons
Quiet references to Irish woodland—soft greens, deep natural woods, and warm stone—bring a sense of grounding
The result is a space that feels both expansive and intimate… lively when needed, serene when desired.
Breathing Life Into the Unused Living Room
Every home has “that room”—beautiful on paper but ignored in practice.
Here, it was the living room.
We saw an opportunity to infuse purpose and personality into a forgotten space. Through refined furnishings, meaningful accents, and a layout made for conversation, the living room is now a destination—a place where guests naturally gather, linger, and laugh.
A Dining Space Designed for Legacy Moments
An Irish family deserves a dining table that can hold memory after memory, season after season.
We created a welcoming dining area with a true sense of occasion—large enough for holiday meals, intimate enough for weeknight connection, and elegant enough to elevate every moment. The new space is grounded, warm, and timeless, honoring generations past while inviting generations to come.
